بناء إطار فکري نحو فهم التحولات العمرانية للواجهة النهرية Constructing a Conceptual Framework towards Understanding Urban Transformations of Waterfronts

تزخر مصر بالعديد من المدن النهرية والتي يلعب فيها نهر النيل دوراً بارزاً في صياغة عمرانها. وتمثل الواجهة النهرية بؤرة الصراع بين شبکة معقدة متداخلة من القوى الحاکمة، ويظهر فيها نتاج ذلک الصراع في أشد وأکمل صوره. إلا أن تلک الواجهة النهرية الممتدة من أقصى مصر إلى أقصاها لم تنل القدر الکافي من الدراسة لتحديدها وتنميطها وفهم التحولات الحادثة بها. تلک الدراسة لازمة وأساسية نحو منظومة إدارة وتحکم عمراني راشدة وفاعلة. 
يعد هذا البحث خطوة أولى وأساسية نحو دراسة وفهم عمران النهر بمصر، کونه يضع إطاراً فکرياً/نظرياً لکيفية تحديد الواجهة النهرية وتنميطها ودراسة التحولات العمرانية بها والقوى الحاکمة لتلک التحولات. ولوضع هذا الإطار، يقوم البحث بمراجعة نقدية للعديد من الکتابات العلمية فى مجالات التصميم والتخطيط العمرانى والاقتصاد السياسى وإدارة العمران مجمعاً ومرکباً للأسس والأفکار والنظريات المطروحة فى هذا الصدد.
Egypt has many river cities in which the Nile River plays a significant role in shaping its urbanism. The waterfront of these cities stands as the nucleus of an arena in which a conflict takes place among an interrelated interconnected web of forces.  The outcome of this city-scale conflict takes its utmost form in the city's waterfront. However, Egyptian waterfronts have not been well studied to effectively identify its boundaries, typologies, transformation patterns and shaping forces.  This study is crucial if an effective urban management proposal of these waterfronts is sought.
This research stands as a first step towards understanding waterfront urbanism in Egypt. It constructs a conceptual/theoretical framework of how to identify waterfronts' boundaries, typologies and forces behind its urban transformations. To construct this framework, this theoretical paper critically reviews ample literature in the fields of urban planning and design, political economy, and urban management, analyzing and bringing together diverse concepts and theories.
