The Journal of Urban Research (JUR) accepts Research Articles in English and Arabic languages within the journal’s scope and research fields.
2- Manuscript Requirements and Style
Manuscript Format
Paper size is A4, portrait orientation layout, with top and bottom margins at 2.54 cm, left and right margins at 3.18 cm.
Manuscript Length
Manuscripts are typically between 4000 and 7000 words, around 18 pages, including manuscript text, tables, figures, and references. In the case of exceeding 18 pages, extra fees will be charged per page.
Text Format
Manuscript in Arabic language
- Use “Arial” 12 pt. for manuscript text and Arial 12 pt. Bold for titles
- Use “Arial “11 pt. for abstract, keywords, figures and tables titles, and references.
Manuscript in English language
- Use “Times New Roman” 12 pt. for manuscript text and “Times New Roman” 12 pt. Bold for titles
- Use “Time New Roman” 11 pt. for abstract, keywords, figures and tables titles, and references.
- Main title to be in “UPPERCASE” e.g. (1. URBAN PLANNING)
- For Secondary titles “Capitalize Each Word” e.g. (1.1 Planning Policies)
- Sub-titles are to be entered in “Sentence case” e.g. (1.1.1 City and crime)
General Notes
- Titles are to be numbered except for “Introduction” and “References”
- Use single lines spacing
- No colored text is allowed
- Do not underline words or sentences; emphasize by using bold font
- All pages are to be numbered
- A line space is to be provided between separate sections and subsections
3- Manuscript Structure
Manuscripts should be prepared according to the following structure:
Title Page: contains “Title; author name(s), affiliation(s)”. Title Page should be uploaded as a separate file
Manuscript Document: Title; Abstract; Keywords; Introduction; Main Text (Techniques and methods /Results and conclusions/ Discussion); Acknowledgements; Endnotes, References.
Manuscript Title and Authors' Names
The length of the Manuscript title may not exceed 80 characters entered on a maximum of 2 lines and centered-placed. Author(s) name(s) should be typed in plain capital letters, centered, followed by title(s) and affiliation(s). 3-line spaces are to be provided between the author(s) name(s) and the title of the abstract.
Abstract
An abstract should be provided at the beginning of the Manuscript immediately before the Introduction with the word ABSTRACT as heading flush left. The abstract consists of one paragraph of 150-250 words. It summarizes important points of the article, including the subject matter and purposes of the study, research techniques and methods, results, and their interpretation. Sentences that do not convey useful information have to be avoided. An Arabic manuscript should provide both Arabic and English abstracts.
Key Words
Provide 3-5 keywords for citation and academic search purposes.
Manuscript text
The text has to be subdivided into sections and sub-sections when necessary.
- Introduction: summarize the “state of the art”, declare the hypothesis (if relevant) and the research strategy.
- Main text: Describe the design of the study. If your research has a geographical focus, describe the nature of the landscape setting regarding location, scale, and other essential information, including a map and/or contextual photo as appropriate. Provide sufficient detail of your approach so that readers can evaluate the credibility and rigor of your work with respect to research design, data collection, and other procedures. Steps in your approach that have precedence in the research literature should be sufficiently referenced.
- Results: Present the results (i.e., outcome and conclusions) clearly and concisely. The Results section is a point-by-point answer to the list of research questions.
- Discussion: Results should be discussed with regards to an up-to-date literature review. The discussion focuses on the generalization of the research results.
Acknowledgments
If provided, “Acknowledgements” shall be placed immediately at the end of the manuscript text, and before the “References". Please list all sources of funding and support as well as all contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship.
Others
Other material such as “List of Symbols" and “Appendices" are to be placed after the references. An English Title, Abstract and Keyword must be added after the Arabic keywords on an Arabic Manuscript.
Figures and Tables
- Figures and tables are to be totally integrated within the text.
- All tables and figures must be numbered and named
- Tables/ figures should always be cited in text in consecutive numerical order, for example (Figure 1)
- For each table/figure, please supply a table title explaining its components, provide it on the top of the table and under the figure, and provide the source below both.
- Titles should be located under the figure and on top of the table. They should be clearly distinguished from the text and the figure or table by providing enough space before and after each title.
- Figures must be presented in a clear resolution not less than 300 dpi.

Units
Please always use internationally accepted signs and symbols for units (SI units)
Equations
- Equations must be allowed sufficient space to ensure clarity.
- Equations must be numbered consecutively, with the numbers parenthesized at the end of the corresponding line flush right (1), (2), etc.
- No portion of any equation is to be hand-written and all symbols should be in italics.
- Equations are referred to in the text by their number in parentheses (e.g., Eq. (1), Eqs. (3-7), etc.)
References
References must be written in the APA style. The following are instructions on citing books, journal articles, newspaper articles, conference papers, theses, webpages and others.

4-Manuscript Submission
Submission of a manuscript implies that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; and that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities at the institute where the work has been carried out.

Publication Fees
a) On submission of the manuscript (18 pages maximum), a non-refundable submission fee of 1000 Egyptian pounds or the equivalent in other currencies is to be paid after initial acceptance for review
b) On acceptance of the manuscript, an additional Publication fee of 500 Egyptian pounds or the equivalent in other currencies is to be paid prior to enrolment of the Manuscript in the next possible issue.
c) For manuscripts exceeding 18 pages, the additional pages will be charged at 100 L.E/page or the equivalent in other currencies.
