Abstract
على مدى التاريخ لعبت الأسوار الدفاعية للمدن دوراً هاماً کنظام للدفاع وللتحکم، فضلاً عن دورها في تشکيل هويات المجتمعات. ومع تزايد النمو الحضري وفقدان هذه الأسوار لدورها الوظيفي، أصبح المتبقى منها يمثل شهادة مادية على الطبقات التاريخية لتطور المدن، لکنها على الجانب الآخر أصبحت تمثل تحديات عملية وفلسفية عميقة لإدارة وتنمية المدن. ورغم أنه منذ نهايات القرن التاسع عشر تزايد الإدراک العالمي لأهميتها کموارد تراثية، فإنها لم تلق بعد الإهتمام الکافي على الصعيد المحلي، فعلى الرغم من أن أسوار القاهرة التاريخية قد سجلت بإعتبارها تراثاً عالمياً، إلا أن الأجزاء القليلة الباقية من أسوار الإسکندرية القديمة ظلت مهملة على نحو يهدر العديد من فرص تعزيز دورها الثقافي في إبراز هوية المدينة کواحدة من أهم المدن المتوسطية متعددة الطبقات التاريخية. وتتعلق إشکالية هذه الورقة بکيفية إيجاد نهج متوازن لإحتواء الأسوار التاريخية ضمن النسيج الحضري للمدن. وذلک من خلال منهج تحليلي مقارن يهدف لإرساء أسس الإدارة المستدامة للأسوار، حيث يتم تطبيقه على حالة بقايا أسوار الإسکندرية القديمة. ويخلص البحث إلى تحديد إلى تحديد الإستراتيجيات والمقترحات التي تدعم إدارتها بشکل مستدام يعزز دورها في إطار المشهد الحضري التاريخي. Throughout history, the defensive cities walls have played a significant role as defense and control systems, besides their role in forming the identities of societies. With increasing urbanization, these walls have lost their functional role; and their surviving fabric has just become evidence of the historical layers of urban progress. On the other hand, the defensive walls have become practical and philosophical challenges to cities management and development. Although since the late 19th century the world’s realization of their importance as heritage resources has been increased, at the local level, such resources have not received sufficient attention. Despite the historical walls of Cairo have been inscribed as world heritage, however, the little surviving parts of Alexandria's ancient walls have been neglected in a way that wastes many opportunities for enhancing the cultural role of the city as one of the most significant multi-layered Mediterranean cities. Therefore, the problem of this paper relates to how to find a balanced approach to contain the historical walls within the urban fabric, through a comparative analytical approach aims to establish the basis for sustainable management of historical walls, the deduced experiences have been applied to the case of Alexandria's ancient wall remains. The paper concludes by identifying strategies and proposals that support the sustainable management of the city walls and enhance their role within the historical urban landscape.
